Distance marriage is now possible in the United Arab Emirates in these times of confinement due to the coronavirus pandemic. The federal government has indeed given the green light for this exceptional measure, the aim being to avoid gatherings promoting the spread of the virus.
The new service is available through the Justice Ministry’s electronic portal, the official WAM news agency reported on Sunday.
The same source said the cleric responsible for concluding the marriage could preside over the ceremony online, ensuring the identity of the bride and groom and witnesses.
If the marriage contract is then validated, virtually, by the specialized court, the newlyweds will receive a confirmation SMS, added the news agency.
To fight the disease, the Emirates have taken strict containment measures. This pandemic has already killed 20 of the approximately 3,700 cases recorded in the country.
