3rd most bereaved country after Italy and the United States, Spain deplores more than 15,000 deaths linked to Covid-19 (15,843 according to figures given Friday April 10). This Friday, the authorities announced the deaths of 605 dead in 24 hours, a terrible figure but which gives a ray of hope to the Spanish. It is indeed the lowest 24-hour death toll recorded since March 24. Another positive sign is that the number of new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours has also slowed down (4,500). More than 150,000 Spaniards have nevertheless contracted the coronavirus since the start of the epidemic.
The 24-hour mortality figure marks a drop for the second consecutive day (683 Thursday). The country hopes to have reached a plateau but WHO Europe warns: "this is not the time to relax the measures". Confinement would nevertheless begin to bear fruit, with the effect of a reduction in hospital tension in Spain. The number of new hospitalizations is slowing down, which could mechanically reduce the number of deaths in a few days, since these often occur after several days or weeks of hospitalization.
