Since April 7, the wearing of a protective mask has become mandatory for all Moroccan citizens authorized to move for cases provided for by the provisions of the state of health emergency, established since March 20 to fight against spread of coronavirus
That said, wearing a mask does not prevent dissemination or contamination with Covid-19 in cases where it is misused or if preventive measures are neglected. The Moroccan association of autoimmune and systemic diseases (AMMAIS) therefore wanted to draw attention to the dangers of its misuse, which it considers "unfortunately almost general in the Moroccan population today, for lack of being well there accustomed ”.
While praising the wise decision of the authorities to make it compulsory to wear a protective mask in Morocco which "will allow Moroccans to have this prevention that Asian populations already know well", AMMAIS indicates that wearing a mask is useful in as it reduces the amount of coronavirus exhaled by infected people, stressing that wearing it protects others even more than the person wearing it.
However, and despite the fact that "the virus does in fact pass through all masks, except FFP2 medical masks", the association claims that the mask is effective only if it complements the other barrier gestures, namely regular hand washing , maintaining the safety distance (minimum 1 meter between people) and of course confinement, stressing that the danger is "the protective illusion of the mask and that one therefore abandons his other precautionary measures".
"Having a mask, even a non-medical and artisanal one, is good, using it correctly is better", this is the advice of AMMAIS which delivers several actions not to do or to avoid like putting the mask under the chin or hang it on the ear, time to chat with someone, then put it back after being manipulated in all directions. The association recommends that, to be effective, a mask must remain in place, and be touched as little as possible.
Among the other advice delivered by the association, it is to wash your hands well with soap and water (by rubbing for 30 seconds, without forgetting the nails, thumbs, back of the hands and wrists) , before putting on the mask so as not to contaminate it yourself if you are already carrying the virus.
Once the mask is in place, continues the association, it should no longer be touched while it is worn, because the hands could contaminate it, or conversely, the mask could contaminate the hands. If you remove it, you should not put it back, but use a new one after washing your hands again.
The mask should not be kept for too long (from 1 hour to 4 hours maximum), and it must be changed several times, if necessary, thus recommends AMMAIS which specifies that a mask moistens quickly under the effect of breathing or sweating and as soon as it gets wet, it is no longer effective,
Regarding the handmade mask, the association recommends that it should be rewashed, at 60% for 30 min for more safety, before any reuse.
